A Few Minor Theatre Requests

Dear Everyone,

• I would like someone to put on a production of Hello, Dolly! and cast me as Irene Molloy.
• I would like someone to put on a production of Once Upon a Mattress and cast me as Winnifred.
• I would like someone to put on a production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and cast me as Lucy.
• I would like someone to put on a production of The Scarlet Pimpernel and cast me as ANYTHING!!!  (No, that's not a character in the show.  I just want someone to do the show!!!)

I also have a few additional requirements as to who plays Cornelius, Dauntless, and Schroeder.

The Blog I Never Got to Write

I really wanted to write a blog about the geese that were near my house.  I decided that I would take a picture of them, because you really had to see it to believe it, but once I decided to do that...I never saw them again.

For a couple of weeks, this gaggle of geese would come off Lake Loveland at 18th Street, block traffic on Taft as they crossed the street, and spent some time in the grass on the northwest corner of Taft & 18th.  After awhile, they'd stop traffic again and go back to the lake.  Now, these weren't just your regular Canadian Geese.  These were some white geese, and some of them were really buff looking.  Seriously, it was like the John Casey of geese out there!  And to top it off (this was the funniest thing of all) was the duck that hung out with them.  It was all these geese and this one duck.  He just strutted around with the rest of them.  Sometimes were there 2 ducks, but mostly just this one.  It was like the geese were a gang, and the duck was a little gang-banger wannabe!

But alas...I never got the pictures because the gang moved on.  Therefore...no blog.  Wait...  ☺

A Day in the Life of...

...a "working" actor.

No, not a working actor...a "working" actor.  That is an actor with a day job (or more than one day job.)  Today, I had an audition an hour after I got off work.  Here is what my day was like:

• While getting ready for work this morning, I had to be careful in how I did my hair so that restyling later would not be a problem.  This is quite the task, believe me.  My hair is crazy.
• Went to work at 8:00 am
• Home for lunch at noon.  After eating a very quick lunch, I restyled my hair with my flat iron, put in my contacts, and put on make-up.  I sang through my audition song a couple of times quietly to start warming up my voice just a little.  Also, did a final fix on my resume' and printed it out on Shauna's printer.
• Back to work at 1:00 pm
• Found out about 4:30 pm that auditions were running ahead of schedule.  Freaked out a little.
• Got off work a few minutes early (because I had to go to the bank to drop off a deposit).
• Arrived home at exactly 5:00 pm
• Changed my clothes, final fix on the hair, touched up the make-up, warmed up for real, practiced my audition piece once, filled up the water bottle.
• Left the house at about 5:15 or 5:20 pm
• Took the back way to the theatre in order to avoid the bad traffic
• Arrived at the theatre at 5:30 pm
• Rocked my audition, thanks!
• Back in the car at 5:50 pm.

Had I deviated from my tasks at all today, I might have been late.  Crazy day, but totally worth it for a good audition.

Thus is the crazy life of a "working" actor.  And you know what?  We love it!!

Vocal Coaching

Hey, please spread the word!  I would like to start doing some vocal coaching.  It would NOT be voice lessons, just help here and there with audition songs and the like.  I won't start charging yet, and I'll only do it for friends for now.  That way, you will be more forgiving if I confuse you.

NOTE:  Anyone who wants help with their 42nd Street Audition needs to talk to me NOW.  I will be out of the country the entire week before auditions (and the week after as well.)  But really, you should do the Audition Intensive on the 10th and don't even worry about me.  Unless you want help picking your song before then.  Then talk to me.  :)

Angela's (Mis)Adventures in Baking!

I love cake mixes.  I really do.  It's so easy.  Throw in the mix, add a couple of wet ingredients, maybe a little flour, and you're good to go.  Baking cakes from scratch?  Are you kidding me?  Okay, I do have one exception to the scratch rule.  I will make my Grandma's Chocolate Cake.  We are STILL trying to replicate it exactly, but so far I've failed.  This last time (a week ago), I came close.  But it's just not the same.

So today, I made a Sacher Torte.  This is a famous Viennese dessert.  We are having a German/Austrian Themed dinner for Easter, and I was volunteered to make the Sacher Torte.  Not being the most prolific baker in the world, I did a test run today.

So this was seriously the most labor-intensive cake that I have ever made in my life.  Heck, it was the most labor-intensive ANYTHING that I have ever made in my life.  I seriously needed 3 hands a certain times, just so I could follow what the directions were telling me to do!  CRAZY!!!  I did the best I could, so we'll see what happens.

And now...the verdict:  Craig approved the cake with some minor changes.  For the record, it has been 10 years or so since he had an ACTUAL Sacher Torte in Austria.  Everyone liked it.  Guess I'll make it again next week and not order it in from Austria.

Laptop Novice

It became very evident to me this evening that I am a Laptop Novice.  It was more a case of me not really thinking clearly, but it's still pretty funny.

We are in the midst of a massive Spring snowstorm.  I've been watching TV tonight (actually, watching DVDs, because the satellite went out in the storm) and surfing the internet on my laptop (that I have had for 2 weeks tomorrow).  All of the sudden, the lights started flickering a bit.  I thought maybe the power would go out.  So what do I do?  I shut down my computer.  It wasn't until it was completely turned off that I realized...my laptop runs on a battery.  The only thing that would affect it in a power outage would be the loss of internet.  DUH!!!!

I think the blonde highlights I got in my hair last year are starting to affect my brain.

I have officially decided to bring back the Quote of the Day.  I went back and forth about how to do it (see:  http://tangents-by-angela.blogspot.com/2010/03/to-quote-or-not-to-quote.html) and finally decided to create a Facebook Fan Page.  I kind of wanted to do a blog, because then I could schedule the posts ahead of time (which would have come in really handy when I'm out of the country with limited internet access next month!) but in the end, FB Fan Page won out.  People can choose to be fans, and then the quotes show up in their news feed!  Convenient!!!

Oh, Happy Day!!!

I got a monkey off my back today.  That's right...I paid off my student loan!!!  FINALLY!!!!  Actually, I'm about 7 months ahead of schedule, based on the way they set it up, but still.  It's been a long time coming, and it feels GREAT!!!!!!!!

To Quote or not to Quote

Does anyone remember, back in college, when I used to do the Quote of the Day.  I sent out an e-mail every week day with a random quote that I liked.  I can't remember exactly when I started it, but I'm pretty sure I did it for most of college.  I kept it going a bit after I graduated, but then one day I lost the archive in a computer malfunction.  I stopped doing the quotes all together after that.

But today, I had the idea to start up again.  I've been putting up random quotes as my Facebook statuses (and as Tweets, when they are short enough) every now and then, and I kind of caught the Quote bug again.  I would either do it as a blog or on Twitter.  I won't send out mass e-mails like I did before.  So let me know if you'd read them!!
