Movie Recommendation: The Great Buck Howard

7 Reasons to see "The Great Buck Howard"

  1. John Malkovich - seriously, he's an AMAZING actor. His performance is mesmerizing. He is SO into character. I love how he morphs into character and you hardly realize that it's John Malkovich!
  2. Colin Hanks - He's great in this movie! Good acting is definitely in the genes. I spent a lot of the movie noticing how much he looks like his dad sometimes. When he turns his head a certain way, WOW!!!!!
  3. Tom & Colin onscreen together - There's just something about a real life father and son playing a father and son onscreen (same with mother and daughter. See Natasha Richardson & Vanessa Redgrave in "Evening")...there is a dynamic that acting cannot fake when there is a real relationship. It's fun to watch!
  4. Emily Blunt - this girl can do no wrong! I have never seen her do a bad performance. And she does a great American accent. (Dear Powers that Be: please release "The Young Victoria" so that Emily can be up for an Oscar for it. SHE'S AMAZING!!!!)
  5. Debra Monk/Steve Zahn - two words: SO FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. This movie is quirky fun. It's not a blockbuster action flick, or sweeping epic. It's a cute little movie about a fading star. You'll laugh, you'll laugh...you might cry. I didn't. But it made me happy. It's a shame this movie didn't have a wider release. They put so much crap out there for everyone to see that movies like this don't get the credit they deserve!!
  7. It's PG. OH MY GOSH! A GOOD PG MOVIE THAT ISN'T A KIDS MOVIE?! NO WAY!!!!!!!!!

My New Mantra

I've learned there are troubles
Of more than one kind.
Some come from ahead
And some come from behind.
But I've bought a big bat
I'm all ready, you see.
Now my troubles are going
To have trouble with me.

Why Do I Love Chocolate: Let Me Count the Ways

Disclaimer: I did not write this. I stole it from a little ad on the table at JB's Restaurant in downtown Salt Lake City.

Why Do I Love Chocolate: Let Me Count the Ways

  1. A nice box of chocolate can provide my total daily intake of calories in one place. Isn't that handy?
  2. Eating equal amounts of dark chocolate and white chocolate is a balanced diet.
  3. When dieting, I eat a chocolate bar before each meal. It takes the edge off my appetite...and I eat less.
  4. I would never consider giving up chocolate, because I am not a quitter.
  5. Research suggests that garlic and chocolate are beneficial to your health. So, everything I eat contains either garlic or chocolate, but rarely both.
  6. About the theory that chocolate slows down the aging process...it may not be true, but dare I take the chance?
  7. Chocolate is cheaper than therapy. And I don't need an appointment.
  8. A little too much chocolate is just about right.
  9. To maintain a proper diet, I choose from the 5 basic food groups: milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, chocolate cake, and chocolate pie.
  10. Chocolate...it's a vegetable...Really!!! It comes from the cocoa bean. Beans are vegetables. 'Nuff said.

What is George Thinking?

I think he's doing his very best Vito Corleone impression.
Please especially note his left hand gesture, and I think you'll agree!

Let the Vacation Begin!

Time for a much overdue vacation. I'll be in Idaho for the next couple of days, visiting family. I haven't left the state of Colorado over a year. Time to see for myself that there really are other states in the USA. Sure, I'll just be seeing Wyoming, Utah, & Idaho. But hey, it ain't Colorado!

Have a happy 4th of July!
