International Talk Like a Pirate Day

I'm a little late in getting this posted, but better late than never!

Last Saturday (September 19th) we celebrated International Talk Like a Pirate Day!  This was our 4th Annual Party.  Seriously, this holiday is 2nd only to Christmas in our family.  The 24 Hour New Years Extravaganza of Doom and Destruction (and Movie Trilogy) is a close 3rd.  We partied at Spotts Cove again this year.  Here are some pictures of the festivities:

Some of the Pirates!

Can't be a pirate without a parrot, right?

Cap'n Brian, the Black Spott, makes a toast!

Fireworks were a perfect addition to the evening!
(We believe they were for ITLAPD...please don't tell us otherwise!)

And finally...the Title of Piracy for the Brotherhood of the Latter-day Pirates:

Pillage without killin', Plunder without stealin',
Drink Root Rum, and let yer curses be "Curses!"
Aye, 'tis a Mormon pirate's life fer me!

Emmy Notes

I took a few notes while watching the Emmys last night.  Enjoy!

  • Neil Patrick Harris = AWESOME!!!!!!  Loved the opening number!!
  • Awards given by genre, huh?  Nice touch!
  • KRISTIN CHENOWETH!!!!!!!  You go, girl!
  • The commentary on the winners by the "PC" guy makes me laugh!
  • FYI:  Jon Cryer will always be "Duckie" to me.
  • Yay, Toni Collette!  And yes, she'll always be Emma's protege', Harriet Smith, to me.
  • Blake Lively forgot the front of her dress.  Or, she put it on backwards.  AWKWARD!
  • Wow!  Both guest actor winners are from SNL!  Cool!
  • Alec Baldwin again?  Why not Steve Carell?!
  • Maks & Karina dancing -- That's not awkward or anything!
  • Boo Jeff Probst.  That's Tom Bergeron's Emmy you're holding!!
  • THE AMAZING RACE!!!  WOOT!  Best Reality Show EVER!!
  • Brendan Gleeson looks different without his magic eye.
  • The Dr. Horrible bit was HILARIOUS!!!
  • Note to self:  Rent Grey Gardens.
  • My favorite part of the Emmys:  When they list the writers nominated for Best Writing in a Variety Series.
  • Hugh Jackman's Opening Number at the Oscars wins!!!  YAY!!!!!
  • Ricky Gervais...I heart you.
  • MICHAEL EMERSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  So excited about this win.  He scared the bejeebers out of me when he was on The Practice, but seeing him on Lost makes me see how incredible of an actor that man is!!!!!
  • 30 Rock and Man Men.  I'm shocked.  Or not.

My New Philosophy

You're only as old as people think you are...and if they want to think I'm 23, who am I to tell them otherwise?

How to Celebrate ITLAPD when You're a Missionary

How to Celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day when you're a Missionary
by Stephanie Spotts & Angela Johnson (with a little help from Brian Spotts)

For Neal

10. Drink all the IBC root rum you can find.

9. Plunder your First Mate's (companion's) neck tie stash.

8. Introduce yourself as Elder “Skinny Bones” Johnson.

7. Translate the First Vision into Pirate Speak.

6. Draw a mustache on your First Mate's face while he's sleeping.

5. Throw water balloon cannon balls at landlubbers as you ride by on your bike.

4. Make your District swab the deck in your flat.

3. Hide sardines in your First Mate's breakfast.

2. Call the Sisters Wenches. If they slap you, you probably deserve that.

1. Make the investigators walk the plank.....right in the baptismal font.

Angela's Fall Movie Wishlist

I used to go to the movie theater a lot more.  I used to have the time!  But not so much anymore.  I'm just too busy!  And I don't like going to movies by myself.  I've done it, but I've felt like a loser. But...here is the list of movies I would like to see.  Those that are starred (*) are the ones I will try to move heaven and earth to get to the theater:

Opening in September:
Love Happens
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Fame

Opening in October:
Where the Wild Things Are *
The Invention of Lying
Amelia *

Opening in November:
New Moon ************* <-----that means I'll probably see it multiple times.
A Christmas Carol
2012 (I like to watch what Roland Emmerich does to national monuments, okay?)
The Young Victoria * (I've already seen it on the *cough*internet*cough*, but I desperately want to see it on the big screen.  It's only getting a limited release, but hopefully "limited" will mean "somewhere in Denver".  They should seriously just hand the Oscar to Emily Blunt now.)

Opening in December:
Sherlock Holmes
The Princess and the Frog *
Did You Hear About the Morgans?

That's not as crazy as I thought?  3 to 4 movies per month?  I'll probably make it to at least 2, and I'm okay with that.  We have Netflix for a reason, and there's always the $3 theater in FoCo!  And don't worry...I track my Oscar predictions all year, so I'll have those ready in January!!
